BERLIN ... BELFAST ... JERUSALEM: FACING WALLS ART EXHIBITION
OPENING RECEPTION TO BE HELD ON OCTOBER 3rd AT THE DANK-HAUS CHICAGO

Acclaimed International Artists to Exhibit Works Depicting the Struggle to Triumph Over Political, Social, Physical and Emotional Barriers


CHICAGO, August 30, 2008 -- Facing Walls, a unique exhibition exploring both the physical and psychological effects of barriers presented in society, will open with a gala public reception on Friday, October 3rd, from 6pm to 9pm in the Scharpenberg Gallery on the 4th floor of the historic Dank-Haus Chicago.

Facing Walls will showcase more than 80 works of art by international, European Union artists as well as local artists from Chicago. These artists challenge the issues associated with political barriers through painting, drawing, photography, sculpture and metalwork. The exhibiting artists include Susan Barton, Cyd Smillie, Ed Ott, Lothar Speer, Sally Swingewood, Ronald Graziano, Laura Keeble, Lorna Filippini-Mulliken, Justin D. Miller, Adaesi Ukairo and Carol and David Koeller.

The public is invited to an opening cocktail reception for the exhibition and an opportunity to meet the artists and purchase their work on Friday, October 3rd, from 6pm to 9pm in the Scharpenberg Gallery on the 4th floor of the historic Dank-Haus. The Dank-Haus, is located in the Lincoln Square neighborhood at 4740 N. Western Avenue, one block south of Lawrence and one block north of the Western Avenue Brown Line L station.

In addition to the opening reception on October 3rd, Facing Walls will be open as part of Art Walk Ravenswood on Saturday, October 4th and Sunday, October 5th from 11am to 6pm. The Facing Walls exhibit will then be open during regular gallery hours on Saturdays from October 4th through November 29th from 11am to 3pm.

Facing Walls exhibition at DANK-Haus is part of Chicago Artists Month, the thirteenth annual celebration of Chicago’s vibrant visual art community organized by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and is made possible through the Presenting Sponsorship of 3Arts and the Lead Sponsorship of the Sara Lee Foundation.
